Cirque Berzerk

Los Angeles, CA January 21, 2011 - Vida Marquesa escapes into the fantasy world of Cirque Berzerk.

"They gave us Sexy, Scary, Funny and Absinthe...What else does one need, really?" -LA Times...indeed! Take a dark, sexy trip into the imagination.  Think Carnivale (HBO) meets Sweeny Todd (Tim Burton).

The show takes place in the red light district of well, Hell.  Death is our guide, played by Co-Founder & Artistic Director, Kevin Bourque.   He and his troupe of sexy acrobats, contortionists and fire breathing clowns create a surreal evening that has all your senses firing off at full speed.

Cirque Berzerk will be performing at the Nokia Theater at LA Live through the end of January

Mac & Retna Mural - "Of Our Youth"

I spotted this the other day driving on La Cienega between Washington and Jefferson. This Mac and Retna project was completed in August of 2010 and is their most recent mural to date.

It Reads:
"So today I'm trying to change a few things to rectify the situation of my past. So today I'm looking towards the future (of our youth highlighted)"

The Mac and Retna are artists who are on my list of future masters.  Each artist has his own unprecedented style and technique. Mac paints the figures, using spray paint. Retna paints the calligraphic text, using spray paint and acrylic.

They have collaborated several times in recent years, and have gained growing attention and applause for the powerful and beautiful murals they've painted in Los Angeles and several other cities around the world.

Alex Pardee - Vertigo: A Decade of Hunting Nightmares.

Culver City, CA January 8, 2011 - Vida Marquesa attends opening reception for Alex Pardee's solo exhibition "Vertigo: A Decade of Hunting Nightmares."

Awesome show!! There was a line out the door and down the street, all night.  I think they even had to turn away a couple hundred people.  Not a bad way to launch 2011 for Corey Helford Gallery. Alex blew the roof of that place.

This was a huge show for California artist Alex Pardee.  Not only was it his first solo show at CHG, but this was also his first time using acrylics (he is normally a watercolor and ink guy).  Pardee was inspired by world-famous nightmare hunter, Verti Parker.  www.vertiparker.com
All laid it out on 13 wood panel paintings done in beautifully horrific Pardee style.

A definite must see! Showing until Jan 26, 2011
