Sylvia Ji - Shapeshifter

Culver City, CA December 11, 2010 - Vida Marquesa attends opening reception for Sylvia Ji's solo exhibition "Shapeshifter."

I love Sylvia Ji's art.  Her work captures such an intense beauty.  I first discovered her when her painting, "Dona Dolorosa" was on the cover LA Weekly.  One look at those piercing eyes and I had to see more.

Ji's inspiration from Native American mythology is beautifully executed here. Mostly in a red, orange and gold leaf pallet with the center piece in contrasting blue. On exhibit at Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City.

Sylvia Ji was born in 1982, and raised in San Francisco, California, where she received her BFA at the Academy of Art University. Upon graduation, she relocated to Los Angeles in 2005 where she currently resides. Ji’s work has been featured in leading gallery exhibitions worldwide, she has been profiled in publications such as Juxtapoz, Trace, and Mesh magazine.
